Can I Vaginal Steam When I am on my Period?

No girl, are you crazy?!...Steaming should never be done while on your menstrual cycle, the circulation introduced from the steam can make you bleed more.

Is it true that Vaginal Steaming Helps with Dryness, Makes You Tighter and Increases Sexual Pleasure

Can I Vaginal Steam While I Am Pregnant?

Let's Not Do That...Vaginal Steaming promotes circulation, lubricates and opens up the cervix. Because of this, steaming before 37 weeks pregnant is not a good idea as it can cause a miscarriage.

Does Vaginal Steaming Make you Toot?

Yes, gas releases can occur as the steam introduces circulation throughout the entire pelvic region and relieves bloating and excess water retention caused by poor diet, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, digestive troubles and more. Don't be embarrassed, let those toxins go :)

Why Does My Discharge Look Different After Vaginal Steaming?

Vaginal discharge is normal but after vaginal steaming, you may notice that it's just...DIFFERENT


A temporary change in vaginal discharge may occur due to the release and clearing of toxins and stagnation from the uterus. This is a normal reaction as tissue overgrowth such as cysts or fibroids and pathogens  like candidiasis or bacterial vaginosis are drawn out and cleared away by the circulatory process. You can expect this change to last up to two weeks or until you cycle out. 

What Side Effects Will I Have After I Steam my Vagina?

You May Experience Some Spotting or Discomfort. Herbs are extremely potent and anytime we introduce new herbal remedies to the body, it may come as a "nutrient shock" that can sometimes make you feel bad before you feel good. Soon, your body will naturally adjust to the "State of Normal Health", and you will be better for it.  


It's as if your body has been starving and you finally introduce it to a buffet of essential nutrients and circulation all at once...


If this is the case, you can expect one or more of the following:


  • Although it is rare for a vaginal steam to cause an early onset of your menstrual cycle,  it can happen. If it does, pay attention to the color. Dark spotting means that the uterus is releasing old menses and toxins. If spotting is pinkish or red, this means the steam has prompted blood flow to circulate and the uterus will eventually regulate and reset itself to a normal 28 day cycle


  • If you experience cramping after vaginal steaming, it is an indication that old occluded residue is loosening from the warmth and moisture of the steam and finally releasing itself. Cramping may occur when large clots begin to expel. Cramping happens as the uterus contracts to push this matter out. 


If you are cramping, try to avoid cold foods, cold drinks and cold weather. Think warm thoughts of warm soup, a heating pad, hot shower and stretching exercises to help promote circulation. Apply a womb message using a hot towel or heating pad. 

What to Do IF...

  • You are experiencing excessive or prolonged bleeding (10 days or more) during your menstrual cycle - This is no longer your menstrual cycle, you are bleeding out due to a condition known as Uterine Fatigue. You can purchase a safe over-the-counter herbal supplement called 'Yunnan Baiyao' to help stop or slow excessive bleeding.  They are 100% safe and have no side effects or interactions with other medicines. You can find Yunnan Baiyao at a Traditional Chinese Herbal Pharmacy or online from certain retailers.


  • You Have Excessive or Irregular Discharge - Steaming consecutively drains out excess mucus in the uterus and there can be more in the vagina than you expect. If after a yoni steam you get excess or irregular mucus, characterized by a thick clumpy texture, strange color, or unpleasant odor coming out all of a sudden that is a good thing. This means that Bacterial Mucus was living in the uterus and now it is being released. Keep in mind that it is the warmth of the steam that pulls out the excess mucus and not necessarily the herbs. Similar to when you take a hot shower and it clears nasal congestion by loosening mucus and helping it to drain out. It's the same process with vaginal steaming. Steaming more often (2x's per week) can help to get it all out. 


  • You are Dealing with Open Wounds or Tears  - This is common when you have experienced Vaginal Tearing or Sutures after giving birth or if you have had any Sexual Trauma or suffering from Hemorrhoids.  Steaming is a great healing benefit and will bring some much needed relief. A Sits Bath (warm bath) or genital rinse can also be done to remedy inflammation and discomfort.  Try adding 2-3 tablespoons of any of our Herbal Blends to your bath soak for added benefits. You can also create Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate) by combining some table salt, vinegar, or baking soda which is well known for its healing properties and is especially good for inflammation and pain relief. Apply Providone Iodine for its antibacterial properties to decrease risk of infection.
